Jökulsárlón lagoon in southeastern Iceland, with Vatnajökull glacier in the background. The icebergs calving off the Breiðamerkurjökull tongue of the glacier fill this lagoon and then float out to sea and wash up on the black sand beaches in the area.

@John Cool beans! Sounds fun!! I have no clue where Bear Island is, so I'll have to check that out.

Thanks for the comments on the photo, everyone! I took this on a tour of Iceland in 2005; nice to see it featured somewhere where people appreciate it.

@Sondra, I've always made it a point to get out as much as I can, which is almost every weekend. But that mostly consists of mountain biking or hiking or geocaching on the local trails. During the week, I try to get some paved running in as well (and I get to commute on my bike to work (about 1 mile) most days. I have gotten out to camp a handful of times (but be honest, can anyone actually get enough camping in?)
I got to do my very first true backpacking trip this year and am planning on another one in a couple of weeks with Charlie and Brandon.
To be honest, I should be outside right now: it's clear, sunny and over 60. But I did a 5K this morning and had to come home an do some work, and then I've got an evening "fall color" hike here in a couple of hours, so the timing is just bad to enjoy the best part of this beautiful day...

Enough rambling, I've got some more work to do before this hike tonight. Happy Trails everyone!

Just thought I would share with everyone, I just made my reservations for four nights on Bear Island over Thanksgiving, campsite right on the ocean. Just really excited and wanted to share.

I haven't been able to hike nearly as much as I wanted either. For me it was a money issue rather than time. Our business slowed to almost nothing and the closest places to hike are 2 hrs away. I did get to go on drives on two Scenic Byways I had never been on before and it was so beautiful!

Cool. I've stood on an iceberg. Although I probably shouldn't have since they are super unstable. But I suppose thats what makes life fun. :O)
I've also got to have ice from a iceberg in a beverage on a glacier tour. That was mostly funny. They tell you not to chew the ice because it is much more dense and stronger than normal ice and you will most likely just break a tooth. Really hard to do for someone that loves chewing on ice.
The blue in glaciers and icebergs is pretty amazing. If you ever get the chance to see a glacier take it. You won't regret it.

@Sondra - I got to play outside quite a bit this summer. I wish I'd gotten to go hiking more than I did though. But it's all good because winter is on the way and soon (I HOPE) we'll have snow and then the outdoor fun really begins. :O)

@Sondra I've been very busy with school and work. But the good news is I'll be done in December. Bad news is I'm thinking of going on for my master's degree as currently there are no jobs near me. But it has meant I've gotten out very little this year other than a couple of day trips. In fact, I'm missing the Great Startlike meetup with Scott, Charlie, and Branden along with others next month because of it all.

What a cool picture!

@Sondra Like everyone else so far, I've been way too busy to get out nearly as much as I'd like. I did get to go camping once, and I took my boyfriend on a short hike last weekend to see a little waterfall, but besides that, I haven't gotten to do much. I'm very busy trying to finish up college.

@Sondra Up here in the North East the weather has been horrible. Between that and my school schedule I have not gotten outside anywhere as close as I would have liked.

Wow! I really want to go to Iceland. I'd love to see the volcanic activity as well as landscapes like this.

@Sondra - My fall teaching schedule has gotten insane so though I check the photo every day, I don't often have time to read the comments or make a comment, and seldom get a chance to follow the links. I'm having continued knee problems which limit my ability to do long hikes which is sort of depressing, but I'm still holding out hope that they will be better by next year.

@Sondra - As for hiking and getting out there as much as I'd like - no, I didn't do nearly as much as I hoped, yet I got to a couple of places I've never been and that always is better than nothing.

I think that they were hoping us "users of this product" would take a hold of this and "grow" it - but life is busy for most and we see the die-hards come day to day with occasional newcomers. I feel disappointed at times, because I've been here since the first day, and have seen nothing of what was promised to me, other than we helped to develop, or "be a beta-tester" for their product launch. Sorry if this offends the status-quo, but there it is.

This sure is an interesting photo. I love the way the ice has been formed.

Sure has been quite around here lately. Anything new going on with all you Startlikers? Were you able to hike/get outdoors as much as you wanted this year?

@Devs - Anything new for the Startlike blog? Haven't had anymore since July.
