An amazing day where it was the right amount of clouds and the stillness of the lake created great, mystical reflections.

This makes me miss the mountains...

Yep @Curtis, it's Tahoe... for some reason they didn't include my links. (which is ok actually cuz I really didn't have any great ones lol) Thanks for the compliments! This was an awesome day to go out taking photos.... I seriously lucked out. (too bad the photo's a little crooked heh)

Boy, it's 60F outside. Way too nice to be inside, but the ground's too soggy to be in the woods... ho-hum... I just finished my 5-mi road run and am going to grab a quick bite to eat, and then grab a book and sit out on my porch (which faces the trees, so I don't have to deal with too many people!).

Good Day all!

@ QOTD I'm also one of the inexperienced ones, but in addition to making sure we had proper equipment, like Thomas said, I would also look for the confidence of the others in the group. Even if I was the most experienced one, if the others felt confident about braving the elements, I'd probably go for it. On the other hand, if I was one of the least experienced ones in the group, and the experienced people weren't confident, even if we had the proper gear, I'd probably cancel.

As far as dealing with your friends, that's a whole 'nother matter. Dealing with the weather is one thing, possibly being trapped in a tent with someone (or more) could be a challenge... Or it could be fun.

Awesome picture! If it weren't for the mountains, the sky and water would just blend together. But even the mountains seem to be a similar shade of blue.

You know if that lake was frozen over what crazy snowmachining fun could be had out on it! Just saying!

I'm like Judy and go with the group but several of my most memorable hikes/canoe trips have been in horrible weather. We once had a sudden downpour hit us. It rained so hard we turned a canoe over and wedged it under a fallen tree and put crying girls underneath but it was soooo loud with rain hitting that aluminum boat hard like that. Otherwise I'm usually well prepared so if you're not you might have a long day with me :) I don't cancel unless you say "no".

@Charlie - Hey!! So good to 'see' you again!! And well, as you surely know....you have been missed!! And you're doing the QOTD to boot!! Picking up right where you left off........ :-) How cool!

@QOTD - As you also know, I'm in the 'very inexperienced' camper group here (hard to believe that Alison and I are even related when it comes to that!) so I _know_ that I would probably opt out of going camping in torrential rains or freezing temps, even though I have 'been there-done that'....(when Alison and her brother were 'little tykes'). As Thomas says....I gotta lean more towards 'safety' ....at this point in my life! :-) That's my answer! (Again, welcome back, Charlie!)
@POTD - Breathtakingly beeeeauuuutiful photo!!

QOTD- Pretty much I leave it up to them. If they do not want to hike in bad weather then I'm willing to find something else to do. But if they want to go ahead and try it. WHO am I to say NO? LOL!!!

@QOTD
If by friends I mean my three children, then we decide based on the duration of the camping and our gear. Last summer we planned to camp at Banff, saw a weather report of three days of thunderstorms just before pulling out of our driveway, then turned to our teenager and her little brothers and said, "When's the last time we saw the Oregon Coast?"
Three days of wet sways me unless I have a central camp and have committed myself to a National Parks volunteer project. (M.E.A.D. High School went to Mt Rainier NP this Fall and spent five days in rain and snow so we could finish a revegetation project before Paradise got frozen in.)

My first thought was, "Tahoe?" So I Googled "Logan Shoal." It's Tahoe.

Morning Charlie! Good to see you back on. Morning Alison!

QOTD- Hmmm.. In this group I'd have to categorize myself as one of the less experienced based on some of the discussions. It has been years since I've been in a tent, though weather-wise, I've been in and seen tornadoes, funnel cloud, hailstorms, major wind storms, severe lightening, blizzards, whiteouts, all except a hurricane. It's hard to say. To me it would really depend on the type of equipment everyone is using. For example, if it snows, and the party only has bags rated for warmer temps. Safety always comes first too. I've been in situations where myself and a friend went on a hike (luckily a short one) and the temp dropped dramatically. If we would not have been on so short of a hike there would have been a good chance Hyperthermia could have set in due to us not being prepared.

QOTD If you've planned a while for a trip outdoors with friends, say less experienced, then the day arrives and bad weather is warned as possible, do you go anyway and deal with the weather and possibly your friends too or do you make everyone change their plans and cancel?
