@Alison That's cool. I wanted to take photog classes in college, but the labs never worked out to fit in my schedule with classes I HAD to have. So I just have my animal science degree. :) Oh well, one of these days....

@ Wendy- I always enjoyed behing behind a camera while growing up, so when I wasn't riding horses in college, i went to school for photography. I ended up getting my equine science degree, but still spend a considerable amount of time reading up on and trying new things.
It also helps that next to being on the back of a horse in the mountains, the next best place to be is behind the viewfinder of a camera!

@ Thomas, I did make friends with the director of an art gallery in Powell, WY when i was in school, but I find myself moving around too much to spend any length of time getting to know any gallery people. For as busy as I am right now though, I'm glad that my photogs are at least getting posted here and peer reviewed

@Alison you might try and get to know some of the local art gallery owners. My brother used to take a lot of photographs also and when he lived in Springfield, MO he got to know one of the art gallery owners. She wanted to display some of his photos. It might help get your foot in the door to selling some.

@Alison I agree....I would love to be able to make a living off my pics. I think the biggest hurdle might be that photography (especially the type they put in coffee-table books) is an EXTREMELY competitive business. I need to spend more time learning more about the technical side of photography, as well. Any advice on that? Did you take classes or are you completely self-taught? Just curious. All your pics are gorgeous!

@John- Statistically, the Tetons are the most famous and photographed in the world, and people recognize them, but the vast majority don't actually know what mtn range they are! And as often as they are photographed, and as majestic and awesome as they are in photographs, words and pictures don't even begin to do them justice! They take my breathe away every time I look at them, and I live in their shadow! (Yes, that means I get breathless a LOT!)

@ Everyone- Thanks for the praise!!! As I'm not a pro photographer, I need all the encouragement and compliments I can get to keep me in line. I would love nothing more than to wrangle in the summer, and live off my photos in the winter!

@ Michelle. I have thought about it. I just haven't had the time lately to devote to photog like I wanted to this winter.Charlie has been in touch with me about designing and setting up my own website, and if you ask my mom, she's already got the coffee table book I made her as a x-mas gift through Snapfish. I would absolutely LOVE to have my photogs published and for sale somewhere, its just the marketing strategy and initial start up costs that I get stuck on... So if anyone wants to sponsor me, pitch my photos to book companies, or at the very least, buy a photo... go right ahead!!!!

@Alison - Have you thought of creating a photo book and selling it? It would be a great book to have on a coffee table or something. I bet Borders and/or Amazon would pick it up.

Thanks everyone for your answers. I usually take my smart wool base layer and long pants since I like to hike wearing shorts in the summer. An extra t-shirt a micro fleece shirt and my rain gear. Oh! And definately extra socks. I'll be adding a synthetic down pull over coat to that this year weighs less than a pound and stuffs into one of it's pockets. I figure the added warmth will be worth the weight.

@Judy Most of the weight on my back seems like clothes to me when I'm backpacking. The bulk of my overnight trips have been in winter and I take a change of everything. Everything of mine ends up wet at some point from a wet ground or sweat or a river or something. Also need at least one extra layer for sitting at the campsite that you don't need when hiking. Usually there's another shirt and some socks waiting at the car as well.

Awesome! Bee-yoo-ti-ful pic, Alison! Since I'm a country girl, I love rural shots.

I am surrounded by farmland and enjoy the view, but the mountain range in this picture would make MY view that much better. Love it!

@Alison - I actually painted the Tetons when I was in college without being aware of what range they were - took it from a National Geographic pic...lol

@Judy - QOTD - weather for me drives this question - extra socks for sure regardless - should have dry clothes though - at least one outfit change - it depends also on your parameters of the hike - do u have a camp or vehicle? are you carrying everything in to site...etc - i always take more than what I need and I'm hearty stock, so I can carry more than the average bear too...

I love the combo of farm land and mountains. Being from farming country I have a bit of a soft spot for it. Great shot Alison!

Kind of creepy... I have this set as my desktop background, and I thought my screen was shrinking, then I realized that it's on Startlike :-)!!! I LOVE the Tetons!!!

Thanks Judy!

Morning Charlie!

@Judy I always try to take one change with me, just in case. Dry socks every time, no matter what. I keep a pair of those in my car. Then, depending on the weather, jeans and a t-shirt, winter I will throw in a base layer for the bottom.

QOTD- When you go overnight backpacking, do you take a change of clothes? How much clothing do you usually take?
